If you get the app from other third-party download sites like download.com, beware that it may be bundled with bloatware. In addition, I have used Malwarebytes Antivirus to run a thorough scan of my Mac when CleanMyMac is running, and no security issues were found.

As the name indicates, Smart Cleanup quickly scans your Mac, then shows you files that are safe to be removed. In my MacBook Pro, it found 3.36GB of files ready for cleanup. The scanning process took about 2 minutes.

System Junk: Removes temporary files, unused binaries and localizations, various broken items and leftovers, etc. This will help free up space and boost your Mac performance without affecting app functionality. For my MacBook Pro, it found 2.58GB of system junk.

Well detailed review of cleanmymac. In my personal experience, cleanmymac is one decent promising software for keeping the mac clean. First i thought it could be another junk app, but it did work in finding tons of files that clogged the system performance. Impressed.

Speaking from a security perspective, the answer is yes: CleanMyMac 3 is 100% safe to use. I ran Drive Genius and Bitdefender Antivirus on my MacBook Pro and they don’t find any threats associated with the app. It does not contain any virus, malware or crapware, provided that you download it from the official MacPaw website.

From a technical perspective, CleanMyMac is safe if you know what you are doing. Some users on the Apple discussion community complained about the app for causing certain problems. I have never experienced any such issues; however, I don’t deny that MacPaw over-exaggerates its smart cleaning capability. In my opinion, software is not human. Even if it has sophisticated machine-learning algorithms to analyze patterns, wrong decisions could still be made in rare cases. Also, improper human operation — deleting critical system or application files, for example — may cause some apps to not work as expected. In this sense, I suppose, CleanMyMac is not perfectly safe.

The app is built around a try-before-buy model. While the demo version is free to download and use, it only allows you to clean 500MB files. To remove that limitation, you’ll have to buy a license.

We have been using CleanMyMac since we had to delete a lot of files in order to install Big Sur, one of our favourite features is that fact that the tool sits in the menu at the top of the screen so we can see a simple overview of our system at all times, which also means its a simple one-click process to free up memory when RAM is getting low.

Do not install any anti-virus or automated cleaning tools on your computer, and remove any that you have installed. They can use excessive computing resources and slow down your computer and possibly cause system damage. Recent macOS versions have security software as part of the operating system, do self-cleaning, and system software issues are best resolved using specific tools on a case by case basis. The same goes for malware removal. Being smart about what you download from where is the best protection against malware. Tools are always outdated. If you do get something try:

Installing and running any type of "cleaning" app may brick your Mac since some clean so well that they also delete needed system components. I would not allow anything of the kind anywhere within 10 miles of my Macs. You can easily move/delete files such as movies, videos, or photos yourself to an external hard drive; you can maintain a healthy amount of free space yourself and/or upgrade RAM or the hard drive (if the model allows it) and run Malwarebytes for Mac for free to get rid of malware/adware.

1) the only cleaning software you need is built into the Mac operating system. If your hard drive is getting full it is your job to look for files you can delete or should consider moving to an external drive. I always recommend moving your iTunes library (music and video) to an external drive. That frees up lots of space

3) a healthy stable Mac does require about 15-20GB free space but don't trust any program to clean for you. Cleaning software cleans your wallet but can leave your computer unstable and missing vital data.
